About Us

Jordan Field
I am passionate about food, the outdoors, and everything connecting the two. Throughout my life I have been an avid forager and home food grower. I have spent 13 years working on small organic farms in southwestern BC: first as an apprentice farmer, then as a farmhand, and for the last 7 years as farm manager. Before that I spent 6 years working in residential landscaping, also in the south coast region.
My work has given me a wealth of knowledge and experience in areas that I believe are highly relevant to home food gardening:
- Tree fruit and berry pruning/maintenance
- Outdoor and greenhouse vegetable growing
- Minor construction
- Irrigation
- Small-scale poultry raising
- Seed saving
My role as a farm manager often involved teaching farming principles and techniques to farm apprentices, laborers, and volunteers. I have encountered thousands of enthusiastic home gardeners (of wildly varying experience levels) at farmer’s markets and Seedy Saturday events over the last 12 years while working for a small farm and local seed company on south Vancouver Island. In trying to respond to the huge variety of questions these people had, I often wished I could visit their garden so I could give answers more specific and useful to their situation. That is my aim now: to use my expertise to help my clients be successful in growing their own food, particularly in the region of South Coastal BC that I am so familiar with.
